Abstract

The dihalo substituted compounds 13 (X = Br) and 26 (X = I) are useful intermediates for the orthogonal decoration of pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines. 13 is formed by oxidative rearrangement in DMSO of the captured Wheland bromination intermediate 12.
