Abstract
Blind preschoolers who do not yet have the maturity to handle a long cane deserve the help that precane devices can give, thus beginning important concept development earlier, and developing good habits and confidence more quickly. The devices may differ greatly in construction, but must be simple to use, and ultimately help bridge the gap between extended arm self-protection and beginning cane-travel instruction.
