Abstract
Experimental evidence is presented showing that hysteresis losses in planar shear in fabrics have a high degree of correlation with crease-recovery angles. Analysis of the mechanism of hysteresis loss results in the equation ΔβF=Cμ E (1— s), relating the modulus E, the interfiber coefficient of friction μ, the settability s, and the component Δβ F of the recovery angle due only to the interactions in the fabric. The validity of the equation is supported by experimental results.
