Abstract
Mildly handicapped students require extremely systematic instruction if they are to transfer newly acquired skills. This article describes a series of strategy training programs, including a final program which enabled learning disabled students to generalize. Based on these programs, a general model of instruction for transfer is outlined. Cognitive theory is used to analyze why this type of instruction results in transfer.
