Abstract
This article examines the process of leave-taking (termination) in terms of the social goals and remedial and reciprocal models of group work. A typology of termination, consisting of planned and unplanned, standard and tapering, and considering individual and group dimensions ispresented. Reactions to termination and related activity patterns are discussed. Practice principles for group leaders are noted, including timing, leader-member decision making and evaluation, management of emotions, and post-termination.
