Abstract
The high temperature oxidation of metal silicides is briefly reviewed followed by a description of recent experiments on the oxidation and mixed oxidant corrosion of Ni- and Fe-silicides. The oxidation kinetics are related to the structure and composition of the oxide films formed under various exposure conditions. Finally, the effects of pre-formed SiO2 films on minimizing the corrosion of Ni- and Fe-base alloys in sulfur-bearing gases are presented.
