Abstract
Sporobolomycessingularis, when grown in a medium containing lactose, utilized the glucose portion as a carbon source and produced by transglycosylation as main products a trisaccharide O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-D-glucose (I) and a tetrasaccharide O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-D-glucose (II) (50% combined yield). Oligosaccharides of higher molecular weight were not detected.
