Abstract

This study evaluates the co-innovate for sustainable impact and development (CISID) framework's impact on online service-learning (SL) courses at Ateneo de Manila University, with a focus on development studies students in the school year 2022-2023. Employing a mixed-method approach, it utilizes pre-test/post-test surveys and thematic analysis of reflections. Findings indicate significant enhancements in knowledge application, personal and professional skills, civic engagement, and self-awareness after a yearlong CISID experience. Themes summarized by the PROVEN acronym—practical relevance, rigor, optimal development, vibrant engagement, empathic learning, and nifty course materials and delivery—reinforce the improvements. Despite a limited sample size and the online service-learning context, the research supports extending CISID to various teaching modes, highlighting its potential for fostering comprehensive, empathetic education tailored to complex social challenges. Future research should explore CISID's applicability in diverse and on-site educational settings.
