Abstract
With blades accounting for as many as 42% of failures in gas turbines, there is a pressing need for a unified treatment of their causes, failure modes and practical troubleshooting. In this paper, the significant causes of problems relating to axial compressors and turbine blading are covered. Case studies are provided pertaining to blading vibration, aerodynamic instability, and blade environment related problems.
