Abstract

For consistent and accurate production of a split (crankshaft) point drill, proper mathematical models are derived. Modification of the existing, basic conical flank model yields the model for the major (primary) flank surface. An independent, planar model for splitting the point (secondary flank) is also derived. The models yield grinding parameters to set the relative positions of the drill and the grinding wheel for precise production of the split point geometry.
