Abstract
Synopsis Conduction calorimetry is shown to be a useful technique for examining the hydration behaviour of different types of cement and phenomena such as early stiffening and setting (or thickening). The effects of the surface area of the cement and its aeration upon the hydration process are demonstrated. The influence of accelerating and retarding admixtures on hydration is clearly indicated by the technique.
