The rationale of a two-point workability test

Abstract

Synopsis There is a considerable amount of evidence to show that fresh concrete behaves as a Bingham material and therefore measurements at at least two rates of shear are needed to characterize it. The present workability tests are single-point tests and they are therefore inadequate. The very limited circumstances under which they are of some value are discussed. A simple test based on measurement of power input to a mixer at several speeds is described.
