Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study presents an evaluation of soil–geogrid interaction mechanisms. Pullout tests were carried out on different types of geogrid to evaluate the effects of transverse ribs and dilatancy characteristics of sand around the geogrid during unload–reload processes. The interaction was observed using particle image velocimetry and analyzed using a spatial discretization scheme in the finite element method to understand the dilatancy mechanism and the shear strain distribution.
