Abstract

Cracking of buildings as a result of vibration led to detailed measurement checks of levels. In some cases the problem was not conventional vibration but fast shock fronts. Theory then suggested that very fast rise times allowed shocks to be much more damaging than test vibrations. This alters permissible damage levels.
