Abstract
In the May 1980 issue of Academic Therapy (15:5), we published an article by Thomas J. Kampwirth and Marion Bates entitled, “Modality Preference and Teaching Method: A Review of the Research.” The article concluded by saying that “ … there is little research supporting the efficacy of matching children's auditory and visual preferred modalities to teaching approaches.” The article generated a great deal of interest. With the following two articles, the first by Walter Barbe, Raymond Swassing, and Michael Milone, and the second a reply by Thomas Kampwirth, Academic Therapy intends to provide a forum for the discussion of this important topic in the field of learning disabilities.
