Abstract
What are the factors which affect the pay-off to organizations who subscribe to management training programmes. To answer this question the writers of this paper obtained data from 811 American, British and international managers. The results indicate, for example, that: 1) Programmes which help managers deal with problems faced at the time are more effective. 2) Organizations which provide more freedom to managers are more likely to get good results. 3) Assertive, achievement orientated managers are more likely to innovate following training, and 4) Organizational climate effects are greatest for lower level, achievement orientated managers. The practical implications of these findings are also discussed.
