Abstract
Paraprofessionals have assisted teachers with the physical care and management of students with autism for nearly two centuries. The passage of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (P.L. 94--142) dramatically changed the responsibilities of paraprofessionals. Paraprofessionals now collect and organize data, facilitate integration into less restrictive environments, and teach functional skills in natural settings.
