Abstract
This research examines the issue of the degree to which users of state welcome centers are representative of summer tourist visitors in general. No significant differences were found between the demographic and trip behavior profiles of out-of-state travelers who used welcome centers and those who did not. The results support the historical reliance of states on data collected from welcome center users to monitor visitor activity.
