Abstract
The length of life of incandescent lamps has been fixed by manufacturers at too low a level as a result of a widely accepted piece of mathematics which, this paper argues, is erroneous. On amending the mathematics it is shown that the length of life should be fixed at about 50% above present values; it is also suggested that, if other elements in the calculation were amended, a further lengthening would be required.
