Abstract
Cotton printcloth finished with crosslinking agents such as formaldehyde, glyoxal, dimethyloldi hydroxyethyleneurea, and dimethylolmethoxyethyl carbamate with sulfurous acid in different ratios contained sulfur after washing and drying. Methods of analyses such as ion-exchange, acid-base titration, and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) have indicated the major type of sulfur derivative bound to the cellulose. A mechanism is proposed to explain incorporation of sulfur in the finished cotton.
