Abstract
The aim of this paper is to characterize dynamic wetting of a nylon 66 round monofilament using aqueous solutions of the following surfactants: sodium dodecyl sulphate (anionic), nonylphenol with 10 M ethylene oxide ( nonionic ), and mixtures of the two with respective molar ratios of 0.8:0.2, 0.5:0.5, and 0.2:0.8. Wetting ability is obtained as a function of several total concentrations of each surfactant and the mixtures, mainly below their critical micellar concentrations at a temperature of 25°C. Wetting ability is evaluated by means of the technique based on the Wilhelmy balance principle, and the advancing and receding contact angles are determined from the wetting hysteresis of the monofilament in the surfactant solutions.
