Abstract

The effect of binder levels and needle and harb variables on selected physical properties and correlation between three subjective hand properties of compactness, stiffness, and roughness and the physical properties were investigated. The binder levels significantly influenced the mean values of initial modulus, rupture strength, flexural rigidity, and fabric weight. While needle variable had significant effects on the mean values of initial modulus in the machine direction and percent elongation in the cross direction, barb variable showed no significant effect on the mean values of any of the physical properties investigated. Three subjective hand properties of compactness, stiffness, and roughness were evalu ated by the paired comparison method. The correlations between these hand ratings and initial modulus, rupture strength, flexural rigidity, and fabric weight were found to be significant.
