Abstract
In composite structure reliability analysis, the limit state function is implicit. Accurate but complicated laminated composite plate theories are almost impractical to be applied to calculate interlaminar stresses. So delamination failure mode is seldom considered in composite structure reliability analysis. A review is made on laminated composite plate theories to get relative concise interlaminar stresses. Then surrogate methods especially the support vector machine are reviewed to approximate the true implicit limit state function. Based on the selected review, a new perspective about composite structure reliability assessment is proposed. It is recommended innovatively that accurate interlaminar stresses can be calculated by the global–local higher order shear deformation theory, and the support vector machine is utilized to solve the implicit limit state function problems in composite reliability analysis. Thus, considering delamination failure mode in reliability analysis may become possible.
