Investigating School-Related Behavior Disorders: Lessons Learned from a Thirty-Year Research Career

Abstract

The CEC Research Award recognizes researchers for the significant contributions they have made to special education. We believe that this distinguished group of award winners has much to share with our readers. We have invited each of them to contribute an article, addressing their perspectives on special education and practices. Hill M. Walker was awarded the Research Award in 1993, recognizing 30 years of research investigating school-related behavior disorders. This article by Hill Walker presents his thoughts about (a) the enabling effects of a supportive context for research and scholarship, (b) the lessons he has learned from his career successes and failures, and (c) some brief comments on the value of the applied research process.
