Abstract
This study examined mentoring relationships in organizations as experienced by protégés. The sample, 80 men and women in early career stages, provided data using questionnaires. Three-quarters of the group had one or more mentors. The findings were both supportive of some previous conclusions and contradictory to others. In general, the mentoring experience was a positive one for proteges. Implications for management development are offered. The presence of mentoring in organizations is also considered in relation to specific organizational outcome variables.
