Abstract
Asian development journalism, centered since 1967 in the Press Foundation of Asia, begins a second quarter-century with a network of over 2,500 journalists trained by the Manila-based foundation, and a regionwide development news service, Depthnews. A content analysis of Depthnews shows the original ideas of development news survive: the service has a high proportion of stories dealing with rural development, health, population, science and news of women; it also seeks non-institutional sources and subjects. By avoiding direct government ties, PFA has maintained regional press credibility, but remains a supplemental service unable to sell itself outside Asia.
