Vibration Reduction of a Fluid-loaded Plate by Modal Control

Abstract

This work considers active vibration control of a fluid-loaded structure by means of a modal concept. The resulting ‘adaptive structure’ comprises actuators and sensors, thus, they become an integral part of the structure. A real-time controller is designed to reduce structural vibrations in the adaptive structure. The controller is based on a modal state-space formulation of the equation of motion for the test panel, where the effect of fluid-structure interaction has been considered in the mathematical model. The modal parameters for the fluid-loaded test structure are identified from experimental modal analysis. In order to fulfill the observability and controllability conditions, a design methodology for sensor and actuator placement is presented. Finally, experiments are conducted to verify the proposed concept.
