Abstract
In this article, poly(p-oxybenzoate) composites with different contents of multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared by solution mixing and compression molding technique. The mechanical and tribological properties of poly(p-oxybenzoate) composites were investigated. The wear mechanisms were discussed. The results indicate that with increasing filler content, the compressive strength, hardness, impact toughness and bending strength increase to a maximum and then decrease. Also, the friction coefficient and wear rate of poly(p-oxybenzoate) composites significantly decrease after the addition of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. When the multi-walled carbon nanotubes mass fraction reaches 2 wt.%, the mechanical and tribological properties of poly(p-oxybenzoate) composite are the best. Scanning electron microscopy analysis shows that the wear mechanism of the poly(p-oxybenzoate) samples is delamination and fatigue wear, while the wear mechanisms of multi-walled carbon nanotubes/poly(p-oxybenzoate) composites change to abrasive wear. Therefore, the wear resistance significantly improved.
