Abstract
The literature on women’s progress in various disciplines in U.S. higher education, including social work academia, has generally concluded that women continue to be discriminated against. This article presents a study of data from 1974 to 2000 to evaluate this claim. I conclude that although women continue to be under-represented on the faculties of U.S. colleges and universities across disciplines, women social work faculty have made great progress. Possible reasons for these findings are considered.
