Abstract
Tropical fruits are difficult to handle at every stage from producer to consumer. The rapidity with which they ripen naturally demands special handling technology and accounts for the small volume of international trade in most of them. Nevertheless they are important to the economy particularly of underdeveloped nations. This article examines the problems of shipment, storage and ripening of bananas, pineapples, avocados, mangoes and papayas.
