Abstract
The Power-mobility Indoor Driving Assessment (PIDA) was developed to determine accurately a client's competency and safety in using a power mobility device. The instrument's content validity was established through a national survey of power mobility experts including consumers and occupational therapists. The final version of the assessment has 30 items. A pilot study of its reliability was conducted at the Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. The results indicate that the PIDA has moderately good intra-rater reliability (ICC=0.67) and very good inter-rater reliability (ICC=0.87). The PIDA provides quantitative data that will be helpful to occupational therapists who prescribe power mobility devices and implement training programmes.
