Abstract
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are the most effective treatment for some forms of depression. Unfortunately, these agents cause many adverse reactions and interact with a number of other drugs. We review the pharmacology, side effects, and interactions of MAOIs, and focus on how MAOI-treated patients can be safely managed in critical care settings.
