Trends of Research on the Use of Drama Method in Turkish Teaching

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the articles and theses written on the use of drama method in Turkish teaching from different aspects and to reveal the general trend. The research is limited to articles and theses published between 2005-2020 in Turkey. For the sample, a search was made from YÖK National Thesis Center, TR Index, Google Academic and DergiPark databases. Data were collected through document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The obtained data were recorded as checklists and subjected to content analysis and review. As a result of the research, between 2005 and 2020, 56 articles and 54 master's and 10 doctoral dissertations on the use of drama method in Turkish teaching were reached. When the distribution of these studies by years is examined, it is seen that there is a regular distribution between the years 2007-2011. Compared to the articles, it was determined that the postgraduate theses were in the majority and most of the studies were carried out in the postgraduate field. Gazi University ranked first in the distribution of these studies to universities. In the researches, it was concluded that the most frequently used method is the experimental method among the quantitative models. Emphasis is placed on the development of language skills, one of the learning areas. However, no study has been found that deals with the direct listening skill
