Abstract
Acoustic logging is an experimental technique of great importance that is widely used in exploration geophysics. The logging is subject to errors due to microscopic heterogeneity of rocks outside the borehole. Therefore, the use of a rigorous standard description has an accuracy limitation due to the nature of rocks. In this case, an approximate description may be adequate to acoustic logging data, providing much faster data processing that saves time in practice. Here, we have developed a way to significantly simplify calculations for acoustic logging of rock formations surrounding a well. Examples of the calculations are presented, demonstrating the correctness of the solution in cases of practical interest.
