2. Our investigationcontinued in the August to November 1983 time frame, and this timethe tests were intended to refutethe questions raised about the validity of the previous tests. A thruster electronics package was assembled from spare components and electrically checked out asif it were a flight item. It differedfrom a flight item only in that conformal coatings and pottings werenot installedand itwasnot subjected to flight qualification testing. In addition, sheet metal pieces were cut out and assembled tosimulatethe spacecraft ascloselyaspossible. One spare flight engine and one prototype engine with an "aged" igniterwere used in this testing, conducted in a vacuum chamber.
