Abstract
Steel Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist is a practical primer for anyone who heats, forges, or machines steel. The book begins by explaining the fundamentals of metallurgy and builds to the more complex concepts that are involved in heat treating such as diffusion, grain formation, hardenability, tempering, austenitization, and quenching. Several chapters address how variations in composition and processing affect the properties and performance of ferrous metals, including many types of steel as well as cast iron. Most chapters conclude with a summary of key topics. For information on the print version, ISBN 978-0-87170-858-8, follow this link.
