Abstract
Volume 2A is a practical guide to aluminum and its engineering applications. It begins with a review of temper designations and product forms and the underlying physical metallurgy of aluminum alloys. It then examines manufacturing practices and techniques, focusing in critical areas such as casting, metalworking, heat treating, machining and finishing, surface treatment, and joining. It describes melt and solidification processes, high-integrity die casting, forging, extrusion, powder and additive methods, and the production and use of aluminum foams. The volume also discusses quenching, anodizing, organic and conversion coating, brazing, and laser welding, and offers insights on process selection, quality, performance, service ability, and other product lifetime concerns.
