Abstract
Abstract
The ion-pair chromatography of food dyes is studied in 2 reverse phase HPLC systems. Tetrabutylammonium is used as counter ion in the mobile phase. In the first system, a C18 stationary phase and water-methanol eluants, the influence of methanol content and counter ion concentration was investigated. The second system, 1-pentanol coated on hydrophobic support as the stationary phase, gave higher retention times than did the first system with similar counter ion concentrations. The two systems complement each other and permit the complete separation of all dyes investigated.
