Abstract
Abstract
This chapter seeks to map the emerging literature on the different types of roles involved in the graft and craft of open innovation, and presents a description of these roles, including the systems, knowledge, and networks required to perform open innovation practices. The focus of the chapter is not the organization and its decisions in open innovation but the individuals who compose the open innovation network, such as technology scouts, gatekeepers, assimilators, champions, shepherds, and ambassadors. The chapter then suggests future extensions to the understanding of the microfoundations of open innovation and outlines a set of future research questions and managerial challenges.
