Abstract

Fusion is widely believed to be driven only by zippering of membrane-anchored SNARE domains. With wild-type SNARE domains, it is now shown that fusion also depends on each SNARE having its correct juxtamembrane domain, on the multiplicity of membrane-anchor domains, and on SNARE-associated Sec17.
