Abstract

The tprK variations are an important factor in persistent T. pallidum infection. A nearly clonal isolate has been used previously to investigate the mechanism of tprK gene variations; however, clinical T. pallidum isolates in infected humans exhibit multiple heterogeneous tprK sequences.
