Abstract
Certain stressful stimuli activate the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and increase the incidence of herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) reactivation from latency. For example, a corticosteroid antagonist impairs productive infection and virus shedding following explant of trigeminal ganglia from latently infected mice.
