Abstract
ABSTRACT
Desulfotomaculum thermobenzoicum
, but not
Desulfotomaculum nigrificans
,
Desulfotomaculum ruminis
, or
Desulfosporosinus orientis
, grew by disproportionation of thiosulfate, forming stoichiometric amounts of sulfate and sulfide; sulfite was not disproportionated. The addition of acetate enhanced growth and thiosulfate disproportionation by
D. thermobenzoicum
compared to those observed with thiosulfate alone.
