Abstract

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) effectively reduces an individual’s HIV loads to below the detection limit; nevertheless, rapid viral rebound immediately ensues upon treatment interruption. Furthermore, virally suppressed individuals experience chronic immune activation from ongoing low-level virus expression.
