Abstract
Stemming from studies that increased our understanding of how the child developing systems and their interactions are shaped by the environment and about the role of early toxic adversities, a more holistic integrated and ecological approach is proposed for all professionals involved in health, education and social services addressing children and their families. Professionals need to conceive the child as a whole and within their familial and social context. Services need to collaborate, acknowledge roles and competences, include multi-professional and transdisciplinary contents in their pre-service and in-service training, share programmes, plans and intervention approaches, with the ultimate aims of supporting children in their development as well as families in their parental role and building individual and community resilience.
