Abstract
This encyclopedia provides a wide range of information (including crop history and origins, world production, uses, taxonomy and nomenclature, morphology, reproductive biology, fruit growth and development, climatic requirements, propagation, cultivation, postharvest systems, cultivars and breeding, and pests and diseases) on economic, mostly edible, temperate, subtropical and tropical fruit and nuts classified under 85 families. The entries are grouped alphabetically by family and then by species. Illustrations are provided for some species. A glossary of botanical terms is included. This volume is intended for libraries, researchers, students and serious amateurs; this is not specifically intended for the average home gardener although many will find this useful.
