Abstract
This book is primarily intended to provide destination managers with an overall understanding of the complex and multifaceted factors that affect destination competitiveness. Following an introductory chapter, chapter 2 reviews the literature on competition and sustainable tourism. Chapter 3 is the key chapter in the book, presenting and describing a basic model of destination competitiveness. The succeeding chapters discuss the key components of this framework, namely: the global macroenvironment (chapter 4); the competitive micro environment (chapter 5); core resources and attractors (chapter 6); supporting factors and resources (chapter 7); destination policy, planning and development (chapter 8); destination management (chapter 9); and qualifying and amplifying determinants (chapter 10). Chapter 11 intends to assist managers in translating the concepts and theory of the framework into practice. The book has a subject index.
