Abstract

This chapter reviews the origin of avocado including their ecological races; ecological adaptations; early distributions; subsequent distributions (South Africa, Israel, Chile, Australia, USA); world production and marketing; fruit composition and uses; lipid content; nutritive value, vitamins, fatty acids; protein and ash content. Future concepts are also discussed.
