Abstract
This chapter discusses the role of grasslands through spatial and temporal interactions with arable cropping systems and the importance of grasslands within mixed farming systems developed for different regions of North America. Examples of integrated crop-livestock systems are given. These are sod-based rotations, grazing cover crops, dual purpose use of grain crops, grazing crop residues, integrated crop-livestock-woodlands, and regional integration.
