Investigation of self-regulated learning skills of distance education students: A case of ISUBU Distance Education Vocational School

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the self-regulation skills of students who have received their entire education through distance education. For this purpose, the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. Self-Regulation in Self-Paced Open and Distance Learning Environments Scale was used to collect the data. 141 students studying at Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Distance Learning Vocational School and taking all their courses with the distance education system completed the scale. Descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA test were used in the analysis and interpretation of the data. According to the results of the study, it was observed that the students' perceptions of self-regulated learning skills were above the average in general and sub-dimensions of the scale used. It was observed that the students' perceptions of self-regulation skills differed according to age and marital status throughout the scale, and this differentiation was in favor of 18-24 years old and single students. It was found that students' perceptions of self-regulation skills differed according to age, marital status and working status in the Managing Physical Environment sub-dimension, and this differentiation was in favor of 18-24 years old, single and non-working students; In the Effort Regulation sub-dimension, it was observed that it differed only by gender and this differentiation was in favor of female.
